Escaping the Ordinary: Crafting a Life of Dreams

As fugitives, we spend our lives escaping reality, running and hiding from its claws. We seek redemption from this harsh world by wandering through alternate realities, hoping to enter the sweet realm of dreams where everything is possible. The question is: Are we condemned to spend our whole lives fleeing from reality, only to encounter brief moments of bliss in our dreams, or is it possible to make our dreams our daily reality?

It’s no wonder why so many people constantly seek ways to escape reality and enter the realm of dreams. Real life can be oppressive, limiting, boring, and destructive. We use different methods to break free from the tedious routines of daily existence, allowing ourselves to travel to that place where dreams dwell—the wonderful place where anything is possible.

Oh, how beautiful and magical that place is, where our imagination takes us and where anything can happen! In that place, there is no sorrow, pain, fear, judgment, or limitations. There is pure bliss, a state of ecstasy that lets us touch the sky with our hands. We can be whoever we want and do whatever we desire; the options are endless, and the lack of boundaries allows our minds to fly freely with our imagination.

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Our reality and that place where dreams are possible seem so distant that it makes us feel as if they could never meet along the path of our lives and become one. The problem is that we try to reach the clouds using earthly things as our escape, not realizing that to reach the sky, we must first release ourselves from the heavy weight of earthly objects to fly among the stars.

What I mean is that we cannot buy dreams. We might think that money, material possessions, power, fame, alcohol, drugs, or whatever humans use to escape reality can make our dreams come true and make us happy. Still, while these might work for a short time, dreams can only become reality if we create them—first with our imagination and then by making them happen through ideas, plans, hard work, commitment, perseverance, and faith.

“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney

Why run away from reality when we can create the reality we want to experience? A reality that resembles our dreams reflects our desires and brings us the feelings we wish to experience. The first step is acceptance. We need to stop running away so we can face our reality. Once we accept and understand what surrounds us, we can distinguish between the things we cannot change and those we can, allowing us to focus on the aspects of our lives that we can change and improve to make our dreams our reality.

Once we understand that we have the potential to create the reality we want to experience, we automatically change the way we see our world. It ceases to be the oppressive cage we once thought it was and becomes the realm of dreams where everything is possible—a place of opportunities. When you accept the current circumstances and change how you see your reality, you can become the person you want to be without fearing judgment. When you are no longer afraid of the opinions and criticism of others, you are free to be here and now, whoever you wish to become, and from that point, success is inevitable.

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” – Arthur Ashe

Change your thoughts, and you will change your whole life. Dreams and fairy tales are possible if you believe they are and do what is necessary to make them happen. Even if things don’t go as planned and adversity knocks at our doors, we are the ones who say: “This is not how my story will end; this is how it begins, and here I will start again and continue moving forward!” Can’t you see it? We have been given that power—the power to face all adversity, the power to make this world a better place for everyone, where dreams come true, and where we can all live happy and fulfilling lives.

John Lennon once said: “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.” I consider myself an unstoppable dreamer and a tireless advocate for making dreams a reality. Life is not something to run away from but an opportunity to embrace—an opportunity to make dreams part of our reality!
