When Our World Trembles: Facing Changes

Change is an inevitable part of life. At some point—often many times—we are all forced to face it. Even when we long for change, it can be hard to digest. We fear the unknown, and when something shifts, our inner world trembles. In those moments, we usually have two options: we can face the tremor and learn to dance with it, or we can hide and let it overwhelm us.

Throughout our lives, we encounter different kinds of changes. Some are created by us—chosen deliberately, born from desire, intention, and decision. These are usually easier to accept because they feel familiar; they are aligned with what we wanted. Others, however, arrive without warning. They appear suddenly, uninvited, without asking for permission.

All change destabilizes us. It pushes us away from the shore and into unknown waters. It pulls us out of our comfort zone and forces us to adapt. But it is precisely in facing change that something powerful happens. When we stop running and start engaging, we ignite a spark within ourselves—a strength we didn’t know we had.

“All change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end.” – Robin Sharma

Some changes are inevitable. There is no alternative, no escape route, no way back. When that happens, resistance only drains our energy. Fighting what has already occurred is a battle we cannot win. The only way forward is through acceptance and movement.

This does not mean resignation. Accepting a change does not mean liking it or settling for less. It simply means acknowledging reality as it is. From that place, we can decide how to respond. We cannot fight the past, but we can actively shape the future.

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.” – Leon C. Megginson

One of the most important things to remember when facing change is this: nothing stays the same. Life is in constant motion. Some changes will be chosen, others imposed—but none of them are meant to work against us.

Even when it doesn’t feel that way, change carries the potential for growth. It forces us to evolve, to develop resilience, and to uncover parts of ourselves that would otherwise remain dormant. Change changes us—and that is its purpose.

So let change come. Face it with courage and self-trust. Move with it rather than against it. Keep going, even when the rhythm feels unfamiliar. And when the ground shakes beneath your feet, close your eyes—and keep dancing!
