The Journey Back to Myself

This is the story of a woman who felt lost — and slowly found herself again. It is a reflection of what happens to many people in our society: trying to become who others expect us to be, while forgetting who we truly are.

So, here is her story.

“The Journey Back to Myself”

It was 5:45 p.m. on a Tuesday afternoon.

Another ordinary day in the office — or in her “cell,” as she secretly called it. She was counting the minutes until she could leave. When the clock finally allowed her freedom, she rushed out into the concrete jungle, surrounded by noise, rush, and restless faces.

She jumped on her bike and headed home as fast as she could.

The city was full of people moving without really seeing, breathing without really living. She often thought of them as ghosts with busy schedules and empty souls. But she knew a shortcut.

On her way home, she passed by a small hidden paradise: a quiet lake surrounded by trees, ducks, swans, and birds — a peaceful world in the middle of chaos. Every day, she stopped there for a few minutes. Somehow, it was the only place where she could breathe.

That afternoon, she stopped as usual. And everything changed. As she looked at the water, she suddenly noticed her own reflection. She froze.

Who am I?

Why am I here?

She looked at herself and barely recognized the woman staring back. She had followed every rule. She had done everything “right.” She had tried to please everyone. And yet, her eyes looked tired. Empty. Sad.

She realized that somewhere along the way, she had stopped being herself.

She remembered the little girl she once was — full of curiosity, dreams, laughter. That girl was gone. In her place stood someone who lived on autopilot, following expectations instead of passion.

For the first time in years, she truly saw herself. And it hurt.

She felt overwhelmed by sadness, anger, and regret. Standing there, staring at her reflection, she felt completely lost. In her confusion, she slipped and fell into the cold water.

She floated on her back, staring at the sky.

“I don’t know who I am anymore,” she whispered.

“I don’t know what I want. I feel empty. I feel disconnected.”

For a moment, she felt like giving up.

Then she saw it. A bird flying freely above her — wings open, moving without fear. Something inside her awakened. That bird reminded her of what she had forgotten: freedom.

The freedom to choose. To dream. To explore. To live honestly.

Suddenly, she felt a strong desire to live — truly live.

With all her strength, she pushed herself back to the surface. She gasped for air, climbed out of the water, and stood there trembling. But she was smiling.

“I am free,” she whispered.

“I am still alive.”

Not because her life had changed — but because she had changed. She had chosen herself. She went home that day feeling different.

The next morning, she woke up with clarity. She realized that life was not meant to be survived. It was meant to be lived. She didn’t need to become someone else. She needed to return to who she already was.

Slowly, she began to listen to her heart again. She stopped living only for approval. She stopped silencing her dreams. She stopped shrinking herself. She started living with courage, honesty, and compassion. And little by little, she became free.

Finding Yourself

This story is about losing yourself — and finding your way back.

Sometimes, before we reconnect with who we are, we must feel lost. Sometimes, chaos becomes the doorway to clarity. Sometimes, confusion becomes the beginning of growth.

When you know who you are, you know how you want to live. When you live in alignment with yourself, life becomes meaningful.

Freedom is not doing whatever you want. Freedom is being who you are — without fear.

May we all have the courage to return to ourselves. Let’s find ourselves. Let’s recover our freedom.
