Take a break to enjoy the moment!

Tick-tock, tick-tock. The clock hands keep spinning, faster and faster, they never stop. Second after second our life goes by very quickly. The time does not give us respite, consuming our existence minute after minute. We are always rushing against the clock, the day seem to have less than 24 hours and our days go by very quickly. Plans after plans, our schedule is full. The stress is high and the joy is low. Life goes by very fast, time never stops, and I wonder: When was the last time you took a break to enjoy your wonderful life?

We live in a hectic world where our minds rarely takes a break. Our daily routines and chores keep us busy and our worries, problems, tasks and plans prevent our mind from stopping. We live under so much tension and our minds working at such high revolutions tend to collapse and that is the moment when the stress takes over our soul, mind and body. We cease to be in control of our own feelings and emotions, becoming puppets of our hectic and stressful life, losing every possibility to experience joy and happiness in our daily lives. Can we revert this? Absolutely. In order to regain our freedom to feel happy and joyful we should take a break to truly experience the wonderful fact of being alive.

The truth is that our time on earth goes very fast and is very short, but the problem is not that our existence is short, but that we do not seize every second of our life because we tend to be very busy making plans. Our minds tends to dwell more in our future that in our present, and a man can only truly live in his present. The now, this very moment is your life, the past are only a set of memories, and the future is an illusion. The only thing that is real, the only thing that we can truly experience, feel and touch is our present. What is happening right now, in this moment is all we have, and every second of it is worth living, because every second of our life is unique experience.

“I have realized that the past and future are real illusions, that they exist in the present, which is what there is and all there is.” – Alan Watts

How many moments do we miss each day by being too busy making other plans? When was the last time you really enjoyed the company of family and friends without thinking about tomorrow’s plans? When was the last time you looked at the sky, watched the stars and admired the moon with a quiet mind? When was the last time you enjoyed the pleasant warm of a sunny day without thinking about the things you needed to do later? When was the last time you simply enjoyed the fact of being alive without being worried about the future? When was the last time you were relaxed, at peace, simply connecting with your soul, you deepest self? When was the last time you were truly present? How many times does your mind stay focused in this very moment without traveling constantly to the future? When was the last time you took a break from your hectic life and  simply took the time to enjoy the simplest and deepest things of your surroundings?

Taking a break a couple of minutes a day to contemplate our surroundings, to enjoy the company of others, to do the things that makes us happy, or to simply enjoy a wonderful time with our own selves can bring us to a state of ecstasy that will flood our soul and mind with a tremendous positive energy that will change the way we experience our lives. Disconnecting yourself from technology, from work, school, from your debts, your worries, and other plans can sometimes be the solution to the stress that contaminates our soul and mind day after day. Do not let your life slip from your hands, rather take the time to enjoy the beautiful moments that never come back like a tea with your mother, a walk in the beach, a kiss with your partner, a game with your kids, a beautiful sunset, a dinner with your friends or all those unique moments that we take for granted and that enriches our lives.

“True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future.” –  Lucius Annaeus Seneca

The clock of life keeps ticking, and it could stop at any moment. Nothing can guarantee us that it will keep ticking tomorrow, that is how unpredictable our life is. Therefore, we should seize every second of our life as if it was the last. While making plans and thinking about the future gives our life a meaning, enjoying every moment of our life, enjoying our present without always making other plans is the way to truly enjoy our life to the fullest.

From time to time take a break from your hectic life. Stop, breath, relax and simply enjoy this moment, because this moment is your life, don’t let it go, rather seize every second of it!
