Is your past still present in your life?

Sometimes our past is more present than we think, and that is one of the reasons why we are still standing in the same place in our present. The problem is that everything that is related with our past, that we haven’t let go is still interfering with our present, and prevents us from moving forward. For that reason, in order to achieve our desired goals and dreams and create our future, we must first remove our past from our present.

"Without freedom from the past, there is no freedom at all." - Jiddu Krishnamurti

How many things that are related with your past are still living in your present? And with that I do not only mean only material things, but memories, thoughts, feelings, people and experiences. What place does your past occupy in your present? Does it occupy a huge part or small part in your life? How much of it are still alive in your heart?

Try to reflect about your life and your present, try to relax and calm down from your daily obligations and pressures, and when you are ready look around you, and look inside of you: Can you see your past dominating your present? Are your past emotions and feelings blocking you from moving forward? Is stopping you from achieving your goals and desires? Are your past experiences and emotions influencing your present and making decisions for you?

“Holding on is believing that there’s only a past; letting go is knowing that there’s a future.” – Daphne Rose Kingma

If the answer is no, well done! You have done a great job getting rid from your past and you are living your present to the fullest, without being influenced by it. But if the answer is yes, my next question will be: Does your past serve you in your present? That is to say, it is giving you the results you have been looking for? It is useful in your present? It is helping you in any way or,  it is simply blocking you from getting the things you want to get?

The thing is our past does not have to be always a disadvantage in our present life, as long as the reason of being in our present is to take the best out of ourselves and give us strength. Our past, whether if was good or bad, is always a lesson, a lesson we should learn, so we can apply the knowledge acquired in our present, and at the same time, it should never be forgotten, so we do not repeat the same actions again. That is the important part of it, and the one that we should keep in our present, together with memories that lift our heart and brighten our days.

“The mental and physical space we create by letting go of things that belong in our past gives us the option to fill the space with something new.” – Susan Fay West

Everything from your past that not serves you in your present, does not bring any benefits in your life, any bad memory, or relationship, or good and bad experiences, every emotion, every person, as well as every thing including material things from our past that doesn’t help us in any way should be removed from our present to leave space for new and better things.

If our heart, mind and our environment is full of things from our past that does not make us grow, make us better, make us happy, or make us be the person we want to be and have the things we want to get, Why we should keep them if it is not only to sabotage our own lives? Why we should keep it alive when it kills our present and destroys our future? We have a chain around our necks that is leaving us without breath and that chain is our past, why keep living like that when we have the key to our own freedom?

“You’ve got to make a conscious choice every day to shed the old – whatever ‘the old’ means for you.” – Sarah Ban Breathnach

Today is the right day to clean your heart, mind and your whole life and take away from them all the things from your past that do not serve you anymore. Take all those  things, people, memories, experiences and feelings that do not make you happy, or make you grow, or make you the person you want to be, even those that may seem good, because everything that is from the past has nothing to do with your present, neither your future, they may have been bad or painful, or good or great but they are the past and we have to let them go, so we can move forward and leave space for those great things that are waiting for us.

What would be the first thing that does not serve you anymore in any way? What is that memory, thing, emotion or experience from your past that is stopping you from moving forward? Start with it, and without thinking it too much: just let it go!

It is time to grab a bag, put the things from our past that do not serve us in our present, and throw them away, and make space for all the great things that are yet to come!

Do We Live, or We Merely Exist?

Do we live, or we merely exist? Depending on whether we are free or not it is what will determine the answer. But how do we know that? Because freedom makes us happy, thus, if we are happy we are free and if we are free it means that we are truly living our life, otherwise we only exist.

“What light is to the eyes, what air is to the lungs, what love is to the heart, liberty is to the soul of man.” - Robert Green Ingersoll

The other day I was reading an article about pigeons, and I read something that really caught my attention. The article said that wild pigeons have a life expectancy of around 5 years while pigeons in captivity can live around 15 years or more, and after reading that, I wondered: It is better to live longer with everything you need to survive but with no freedom, or it is better to live less, with a not so comfortable life, but being free?

Trying to give an answer, I said to my self – Okay, the truth is I can’t think as pigeon, I can’t know what is better for them and what they would prefer, but I can think as a human, and as we are free beings, so are pigeons. We both have something in common, and that is the need to be free, and I believe every being has the same need. None of us would prefer to be kept in captivity or in an “all-inclusive prison” in order to live more comfortable for many years, or at least is not what we humans want, or… maybe yes?

“None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.” – Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

I hesitated for a couple of minutes and then I asked myself another questions: It is not in that way how most of human beings on this earth actually live? Don’t we live in captivity? I mean, don’t we constantly fall in the trap of living as prisoners in our comfort zone? Because that is what our comfort zone is, it is the cage where we lock ourselves in with the purpose of surviving. In fact, that is what we do, we survive, we exist, but do we truly live?

The truth is that living in our comfort zone only gives us the feeling of being truly alive and free, what in fact is only an illusion, that is why it is so easy for us to live there, pretending to be happy, because it gives us the idea that there we can have everything we want in order to live a comfortable, happy, and peaceful life, but in order to survive we refuse to live the life we want because doing that would mean leaving our comfort zone, which would mean that we would have to put ourselves at risk, where everything we have can vanish in the blink of an eye.

“Freedom means you are unobstructed in living your life as you choose. Anything less is a form of slavery.” – Wayne Dyer

Wild or in captivity? Uncomfortable or comfortable? Free or caged? What would you choose if you knew you were going to die in a year? Would you still be doing what you are doing now? Because if you don’t, that means you already live in captivity. The truth is our future is not guaranteed, and no matter how safe we think we are, any time can be our time. What matters is to live our life, and not simply survive. Otherwise, what would be the point of this life?

I mean, how many years a human being can live? 50? 60? 80 years? I mean, what is the point of living 80 years if you haven’t lived at all? Maybe you have experienced a safe and comfortable life, and that’s totally fine, but if you haven’t pursued a dream, or you haven’t dared to go for a new adventure, or if you haven’t followed your heart, or if you didn’t do something that has required you to leave your comfort zone at least once in a while, if you haven’t experienced the feeling of happiness that comes from being free to do whatever you want without letting your fears, other people, situations, and anything to stop you, then you haven’t lived at all.

The truth about everything is that your life is yours, and nobody but you has the power to decide what to do with it, and the best for you, me and everyone is to do what makes us happy. But always remember that being in captivity is not living, is merely exist, but being free is living.

The Reflection of a Desperate Soul

The reflection of a desperate soul is a short story about a woman who was lost, but who found her true self. It is a story that reflects what is happening to most of the people in our society. Nowadays most of the people are trying to be someone else, trying to be what other people want them to be, forgetting to be themselves. People just exist but they don’t truly live, that’s why there is so much pain and sadness in people’s hearts. So here goes the story…

"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“The reflection of a desperate soul”

It was 5.45 pm on a Tuesday afternoon; it was another common day for a normal woman. She was counting the minutes to get out of the office, or the cell how she used to call it. Finally, she left her prison’s cell to get into the concrete jungle, and as it was the rush hour, the madness was higher than usual. She took her bike as fast as she could and at full speed she headed home.

The concrete jungle was full of ghosts with empty souls, the view was horrific, but she knew a shortcut. She went back home through the secret paradise, which was a lake full of ducks, swans, birds and other different species perfectly hidden in the middle of the city, or the concrete jungle as she used to call it. She usually stopped every day to admire the view for a couple of minutes before going back home, because somehow she always felt some kind of peace while doing it, and as another normal day, she arrived to the lake, got down the bike and went to admire the view, not knowing that her life was about to change forever.

She was watching the animals when suddenly she saw herself reflected in the lake – Who am I? Why am I here? She wondered – She saw her reflection, but couldn’t recognize herself anymore. She always followed the rules, and always did everything she was supposed to do to please her family, friends, and the entire society. But she could see in her reflection her sad and empty eyes that seemed to scream for help, and she realized that she has never been herself, her inner emptiness reflected in her lifeless pale face and in her sad eyes confirmed it. She had forgotten what it was to be a little girl full of joy, dreams and happiness, she had stopped playing with dolls and puppets, and what was worse, she had become one of them, and the ones who were playing were others.

It was in that moment when she realized how lost she was, she never had time to look into her eyes, and reflect about her own miserable reflection. Her soul was empty and her heart seemed to have no pulse, she was a dead body, a ghost, a puppet, a programmed machine of society, she was everything, except herself. And she asked herself one more time – Who are you? Who have you become? – And then anger seized her. She was furious with herself, she was looking at her own reflection with disgust and repulsion, and in that moment of anger and confusion, while looking at her own pathetic reflection in the lake, she fell straight into the water, feelings of sadness and sorrow pierced her body. She stayed there floating on the water, feeling completely lost. She laid down on the lake watching the sky, and said to herself – This is it, I’m lost, I have no way out, I’m a puppet of this society, I don’t even know who I am anymore, I’m just the broken pieces of something I used to be, I have no purpose, no life, I’m not myself, I’m nothing – And she let her body sink into the depths of the lake as she watched the sky.

Suddenly while she was drowning, she saw a beautiful bird with its open wings, flying in the blue sky, she could not help staring at it with a smile on her face, because that bird reminded her about something she had lost many years ago, and that thing was freedom, freedom to be and to do whatever she wanted, freedom to go wherever she wanted, freedom to fly, to travel, to dream. And then after a few seconds she closed her eyes, and in the middle of that reflection and absolute relax, she forgot about the water going through her body, and because of this, she was about to give her last breath when she felt like someone was pushing her back to the surface, when she got there, she opened her eyes, and she saw everything in a completely different way, everything had changed, or in fact, she has changed. And as fast as she could, she got out of the lake and screamed – Freedom! I am free! – She had finally broken the heavy chains that were sinking her. The contact with her own reflection and her inner strength inspired by a divine miracle had opened her eyes, and so she found freedom, she found herself. With all that happiness and joy that gave life to her soul she ran like never before and went back to her home.

On the next day, she felt like she was born again, she realized that in order to be alive, she should be free to do the things she loves and be the person she always wanted to be. And she started living her life again, being her true self. She stopped being a puppet of the society, and far from it, she began to be her true self. And now being herself, being free again, she went out to follow her dreams, and lived her life with love, freedom and passion.

Finding Yourself

I hope you liked the reflection of a desperate soul, it is a story about losing and finding yourself, it’s a story about being free, free to be who you want to be and do whatever you want to do, freedom to go where we want, freedom to follow our heart and dreams. Freedom to choose our own path.

Sometimes in order to find yourself you must feel completely lost at first, because it is in those moments of absolute chaos, when you feel completely lost when you find yourself and with that you find freedom. Knowing who you are and be it, without worrying about what others may think of you means to be truly alive, because when you know who you are, you know why you are here, and discovering your life’s purpose is the key to live a happy and fulfilled life.

Let’s find ourselves, and recover our freedom!

Resentment is poison for your life

Resentment is poison for your life, as it’s made with the perfect and lethal combination of fear, disappointment, anger and sadness, and this is one of the best recipes for suffering. If you want to live a happy life, you will have to let go of your resentment.

Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.

Resentment is what forbids us to recreate ourselves anew, because it ties us to past situations where we felt humiliated, sad, disappointed or angry, so instead of living in the present, we live tied to our past, and we repeat those past feelings over and over again, even if what we are going through in this present moment doesn’t have any kind of similarity with past situations.

We think resentment is the way to make justice for all those moments where someone made us feel bad with no reason, so we use our resentment as a way to justify our current behavior against life and people. What we most of the time don’t know is that resentment doesn’t punish anyone, but to the person who carries it, because resentment contaminates the heart and soul of those who suffer it.

As smoking is to the lungs, so is resentment to the soul; even one puff is bad for you.” – Elizabeth Gilbert

Resentment puts you limits, because it won’t allow you to be the best version of yourself. Resentment defines you, and makes you act according to what you are not, instead of allowing yourself to be the person you really are. Resentment blurs your vision and shrinks your perspective, gives you wrong beliefs or not allows you to change them, so it can control your feelings, and becomes the leader of your emotions and behaviors.

The problem of living under the control of our resentments is that we experience those unpleasant feelings we felt in the past over and over again, because we are attached to our a past, and so we bring back those feelings to the present, keeping them alive year after year, and when that happens we cannot see with clarity, and so we compare current situations with past situations even though they don’t have any kind of connection between them, and this happens because we are so contaminated with our resentment that we cannot see the difference.

The truth is resentment never helps us in any way, but rather consumes our soul and punishes us with a heavy charge we must carry in our backs through our life, and true peace and happiness cannot be found if we don’t release the weight we carry in ourselves. Once you let go of your resentment you will feel at peace, and you will have back the power to create yourself anew at any moment you wish. You will decide how something will affect you, depending in how you feel at that moment, and you will not be influenced by your past any more, what gives you totally freedom to be who you want to be, and to feel what you want to feel without being influenced by your resentment.

“Bitterness and resentment only hurt one person, and it’s not the person we’re resenting – it’s us.” – Alana Stewart

You may be wondering: how can I let go of my resentment? And according to my experiences, what made me let go of that heavy charge was: Forgiveness. That is the key to release any attachment to any unpleasant situation from your past, what makes you be fully present in this moment, giving you the power to create yourself anew, what gives you the ability to see what is really happening so you can judge a situation according to your beliefs and emotions, what will give you better feelings and a much wider perspective, without letting resentment influence your present.

Resentment will disappear from your life if you forgive your past and those who have hurt you. The best way to do that is by releasing those toxic emotions that are holding you back. Express your emotions and don’t keep them in your heart, open your mouth, express yourself and release them. Your resentment will never let you enjoy your life, it won’t let you see a new reality, so let go of your resentment, and release your soul from any attachment to your past!

Judge less, Love more

Judge less, Love more

The problem is we judge too much. We go through life judging everyone around us as if we were superior species from another galaxy whom they do everything well, and whom always make the best decisions. But the truth is that we are all humans and we all have the right to do whatever we want according to our own vision of life.

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” – Matthew 7:1-2

We waste so much time judging others than we forget to judge ourselves, and that is when the problem begins, because if we are going to judge, let’s judge ourselves first, and then we could see the reason why we act as we act every day, what will make us understand that everyone around us have also reasons deep inside their hearts to say the things they say and to act the way they act.

It’s easy for us to judge someone, what is hard for us is to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes. If we could do that, and if we could not only put ourselves in someone else’s shoes, but feel what that person is feeling deep inside their heart, I’m sure we would be surprised, and we will never judge a person again in our life.

“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” – Mother Theresa

It’s easy for us to judge people all the time, it’s easy for us to judge people by the way they act, the way they speak, the way they think, the way they feel, the way they look, the way they dress, it’s easy for us to judge people for what they do and what they say and it’s easy for us to judge people through the decisions they make. And why is it so easy for us to judge? Because we don’t have an idea what another person has in its mind and heart and we are not even close to know how a person is feeling inside, because we can know the story of a person, but we can never feel what another person feels about something.

Judging others doesn’t make us better, but actually does the opposite, because we define ourselves every time we judge another person, and the act of judging others reflects how we feel about ourselves. Every time we judge, we express the lack of love for ourselves and for life, because it requires having in ourselves a lot of love, tolerance and compassion to not judge another person anymore, but understand them even when we disagree with them in all aspects.

“When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself” – Wayne dyer

What I believe is that the world could be a better place if we could learn to understand each other even when we think or act different, because it does any good to go through life judging people, nothing will change if we keep doing that, different would be if we could change a judgment for an observation, with the only purpose to help someone.

What I want you to understand is that is totally fine to disagree with another person, because we are all humans, but we have different beliefs, we think differently, we speak in different ways and we feel in different ways, everyone should walk their own path, but in order to find peace we should understand others and accept them as they are, because everyone acts according their vision of their world.

You deserve to be understood and not judged for the way you are as everyone else around you. So if you don’t want to be judged, do not judge others.

Why do we care about what others think?

Why do we care about what others think? The answer to that question is very simple: We are looking to be accepted all the time, the fear of being rejected scare us to a point where we forget who we are by being what we are not, a prefabricated product created by society.

The greates prison people live in is the fear of what other people think.

We are looking for acceptance all the time, dominated by the fear for what other people think about us, we act based in what is right for people, and not what is right for us. All the time we act according to what is best for others in that moment, because the fear controls our actions all the time, so we lose the control of everything, and the worst thing is that we lose ourselves.

It doesn’t matter by whom, but we are always looking to be accepted by someone, because by being accepted by other, we can accept ourselves.

“If you live for people’s acceptance you will die from their rejection” – Lecrae

And there my friend is where we can find the beginning of this problem:

If we don’t accept ourselves first, how is another person going to accept us as we really are?

We need to accept ourselves as we are, and that includes everything, also our imperfections, we need to love ourselves and be happy for who we are. And what I want to say here is that is totally right to want to improve ourselves, and wish to be better and better person, but only if that change we want to accomplish is inspired by us for us, and not in order to please someone else.

Once we accept ourselves as we are, and decide who we want to be, without being influenced by someone else, then we will feel accepted everywhere, and maybe not by others, but we will always feel accepted by ourselves, feeling free to think, to say, and to do whatever we want without being afraid to what other people will think about us.

“Care what other people think and you will always be their prisoner” – Lao Tzu

Once you know what kind of person you are, and what kind of person you want to become in your life, you will not be afraid to others opinion about you anymore, because you know yourself, you know who you are, what you can give, what you can do, what you can achieve and you love yourself just the way you are, so you will set yourself free from any unnecessary pain as you will never be damaged again by the opinions of other people.

“The unhappiest people in this world are those who care the most about what other people think.” – C. JoyBell C.

Remember that the opinions of others are mostly generated from people who don’t believe in themselves, and who don’t accept them as they are, people who feel insecure and unsatisfied, people who are always looking to fit in this world by being someone else.

Losing our fear to what other people think about us, will set us free to be whatever we want to be in our life, we’ll be no longer a slave, freeing us from the chain that society has imposed, and we will not fear any more, walking with confidence, and acting in every second of our life according to what fit with our true personality.

“What other people think of you is not your business. If you start to make that business your business, you will be offended for the rest of your life.” – Deepak Chopra

Life could be amazing if we could just love ourselves for who we are, without being someone to please others. You came to this world to be whatever you want to be, you don’t come here to please your family, your friends, the society in which you live, your boss, your colleagues at work, and nobody, you come here to be who you really are, and give to the world the best you can.

So release yourself and stop being a slave from what other people think, accept yourself as you are, improve and get better every day, do whatever it takes to become who you want to be in order to achieve what you want to achieve, just because you have the power to do that and just to please the purpose of your soul.

“Don’t take anything personally; nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering” – Miguel Ruiz

Life is too short to worry about others opinion about you, those are their opinions and not yours anyway, right? Our time on this planet is limited, our days are counted, day after day, second after second, so why wasting our precious time by being what other people want us to be? It is you and only you who will live your life, so you better do what you love, think and feel freely as you please, say whatever you want to say, to whomever you want, whenever you want it, because as I said before, time is limited, and we are running out of time.

Live your life and be the best version of yourself and not being the best version for someone else, do everything you want, without fear of the opinions of others and you will be free.

Prisoners of the system

We think we live in a free world, we think we are free, but in fact that is only an illusion, because we are prisoners of the system, the one we think we dominate, but which in fact it dominates us, having us under its control. We think, we act, and we talk based on the beliefs that they have imposed on us. There’s no such thing as freedom, our freedom is an illusion.

We have been categorized, such as in a product catalog, in which the human beings are separated from each other by nationality, religion, social belief, gender, race, sexual preferences, external appearance, social status, and so on. An infinite catalog, that define us and which we use to determinate if someone is better than other, and if deserves something or not. Based on that belief, we separate each other and is there where the worst miseries of the world come into play.

We start to judge and condemn others, we compete, we do horrible things to each other, we envy, we hate, we become selfish and without feelings and we think based on the belief that we are all different. Some people believe that are more superior than others simply because they belong to the privileged group inside this catalog created by the society in which we live. These few people, the elite, the privileged believe that they have the right to hurt, humiliate, torture and even kill other human being. The problem is that we sell our souls day after day, ceasing to be our true self, to become a puppet from this twisted, illogical and selfish system in which we live.

“You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inert, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.” – Morpheus (The Matrix)

We live in a world where the appearance is the primordial, in which our idols are plastic dolls, unreal and with empty minds. We came to a point of such madness, that we have come to believe that to achieve the beauty standards imposed by this society makes us superiors, believing that we have the right to hurt another one that doesn’t meet the stupid requirements of the beauty industry. The worst part is that some people have killed themselves because they have been consumed by these stupid, unreal, fictitious and meaningless standards, believing that they didn’t deserve to live and be happy by just being the way they were.

It’s a world full of enslaved people, prisoners of money and material things, for which we have committed the worst atrocities. It’s for money that a man loses himself, forgetting all types of values or respect for another human. We forget to live by going after material things that don’t give us any kind of happiness, as we always go after the new, the best, and blinded we go through life consuming the crap that they sell to us, making that our fake motive of happiness. What we don’t know is that everything we buy has a price, and the price is not valued in papers with a number on it, but its real value it’s valued in the amount of time of our lives we spend to earn it.

“The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.” – Henry David Thoreau

We live in a world where we complain about injustice, but we do not do anything about it, we live in a world where we are always looking what other people do or cease to do, and we don’t look at what we are doing, we complain, we blame, but when we need to do something to change the world, we don’t do anything and we only have excuses.

We live in a world where we are too worried about ourselves that we cannot see around us, there are people killing each other in wars and we don’t do anything about it, there is people starving because they don’t have anything to eat and we throw food every day, there is people who don’t have drinking water and we waste it like if there were an inexhaustible resource of it. But human beings have everything: mind, intelligence, skills, abilities, and resources, everything to make this world, a wonderful place, but we destroy it, and we self-destruct day after day, blind and lost in a complete wrong system, that condemn many people and benefit a few.

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

The day we gather together, the day we stop blaming each other, the day we stop separating ourselves by nationality, language, culture, gender, rich or poor, the day we begin to value the important things of life, the day we act against injustice and we stop blaming others, and the day we stop making the biggest criminals of the world to become more and more rich by consuming the crap they sell us: clothes made with slaves, alcohol that destroy people, electronics that make people stupid, cigarettes that kill people, drugs that consume us, food that poison us and all the trash they give to us, and the day we start being the change we want to see in the world by doing unto others as we would like them to do unto us, and above all, the day we start loving each other, that day all the suffering, the pain and injustice will be over.

We have everything, there is nothing that we don’t have, and the problem is that we don’t do anything. We born, we live, we exist and we die like puppets, believing that we are somebody, when in fact we are dominated and handled by someone else, by the ones who belongs to the elite club, the ones who made this system, the ones who locked us up.

Wake up my friends, we still have time to free ourselves from the chains of this society that oppress us, and get the victory, for us, and for all those that their voices have been silenced! Let’s raise our voices and get back our freedom!
