It is Time to Build your Own Dreams!

A new year has begun. A new opportunity is awaiting you. The past is gone, and the present is all we have. In this given moment we have the chance to begin again, and the opportunity to create something new, or to dream a new dream, or to do something we have never done, and we have the big opportunity to create the life we have always imagined. In this new year, are you going to begin to create your dream or continue building it? or are you going to lose another opportunity to make your dreams come true? Now is the right time to start building your dreams and create the life you have always imagined!

"If you don't build your dream someone will hire you to help build theirs." - Tony A. Gaskins Jr

The celebrations are over. The New year’s eve has past. We have celebrated with our family and friends, and we welcomed this new year with hope and enthusiasm. We started the new year full of feelings and emotions, full of hope and optimism, full of new dreams, goals and desires. The first couple of weeks we feel motivated, we are full of enthusiasm, and something about this new year makes us believe that this will be the year that we will make all the things we have always wanted to do.

We start living the first month of this new year with happiness and passion, hopeful and full of faith. But as time goes by, all those beautiful emotions we had on New Year’s eve, all hopes, dreams, desires, all enthusiasm and optimism start to fade away. We begin to immerse ourselves in the darkness of our daily routines and day after day our dreams begin to go back to the drawer of oblivion. An a couple of months later, all those wonderful feelings we once had are replaced with stress, despair, tiredness, and frustration.

“What this power is I cannot say; all I know is that it exists and it becomes available only when a man is in that state of mind in which he knows exactly what he wants and is fully determined not to quit until he finds it.” – Alexander Graham Bell

Then, the year ends and now we do begin to dream again, we believe that the new year will bring us all the things we have always wanted, and once again, all those emotions we once had, begin to appear once again in our hearts putting us in the most wonderful of the states. But I wonder, is this kind of life that looks like if we were living on a roller coaster the meaning of life, the purpose of our existence? Is that our destiny? Once again, as an unstoppable dreamer that I am, I have to say no. Life is something we create, with our thoughts, and actions and with the attitude we adopt day by day.

Therefore, we should not wait any longer to start building our dreams. Life goes fast and if we are not careful we will end up building someone else’s dreams and we will call that “our job” protecting it more than our own dreams. The truth is that this system was created in a way that it makes it almost impossible to live without it. It made us so dependent, that we normally tend to deny all our own dreams because we have the need to serve this system in order to survive. The good news are that we can find the way to depend less from it and be more free, and the way to do it is by finding the time to build our own dreams.

“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” – Colin Powell

A day has 24 hours, a week has 168 hours, and a month has around 730 hours, and that means we have always time to do at least one thing per day that will push as closer to our dreams. Therefore, we should start by discovering our dreams and goals and set up all the steps we need to do along the year to make them a reality. How do we increase the chances to make that happen? By doing more of what will push us closer to them and doing less of the things that don’t serve us. For example, watching less television, spending less time doing nothing, spending less money on things that we don’t need, and so on. Remember that all those people who have created the life they have imagined, have had the same amount of time than you. It is all a matter of priorities. No matter how busy you are, or how much work do you have, use any spare time to build you dreams.

Do little, do much, but never stop doing. Use the time that God has given you in your favor and not against. The key is to start now, wherever you are, with whatever you have. Start building your own dreams before you end spending all your life building other people dreams. Go out and create the life you dream!

Face your Fears!

At least once in our lives we will be challenged to face our fears in order to grow up, evolve, in order to get what we yearn, achieve our goals and make our dreams become a reality. The victory is not guaranteed, but if we let our fears win, if we refuse to leave our comfort zone, if we decide not to pursue our dreams, if we succumb to our fears, one things is guaranteed: Our own defeat and the death of our dreams. Therefore, if we want to make our dreams become a reality we should face all our fears!

Our fears have the ability to paralyze us. They create a burden between us and our dreams. They limit us, they stop us, they steal our hopes, they snatch our dreams. There are many reasons for which most of the people haven’t achieved their dreams and one of them is because of their fears. The fear of the unknown, the fear of losing something, the fear of failure, the fear of what people would think of them if they fail, or if they succeed. These and many other fears that have sabotaged our own dreams.

As I look back into my past I can see how many times I refused to do something I wanted to do, or I gave up a certain goal, or I stopped pursing a special dream and all because of my fears. “What if I can’t do it?” “What if I fail?” “What if I am not good enough?” “What would people think of me if I do it?” “What if I lose?” “What if, what if, what if…” I hear those questions resonating in my head as it was yesterday when I said them. That was not my true self speaking, those words were my fears speaking for me. “What if”: That is how fears start confusing ourselves, that is their language.

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Therefore, in order to face our fears and achieve all our dreams we must first detect when our fears have taken the control of our own minds. Why is important to do that? Because once we detect that our fears are controlling our thoughts, we can quickly take back the control and start thinking for ourselves. If we are not careful our fears will take the control of our minds and they will decide for us, and they will shape our destiny. We should face them and challenge them, and prove them wrong.

Life is like a box of chocolates, there are different shapes, different fillings, different tastes, some are sweet, some are bitter, you can like them all or only a few, but you end enjoying all the box. One thing is certain in this world: Nothing is sure, and you will never know the taste of what is inside the box until you begin to try it. For one moment to another our life could take an unexpected turn, and everything could change. Therefore, if we go safely, if we do not take risks, if we remain in our comfort zone we will never truly end enjoying our lives, we will simple exist, and all our dreams will be buried into oblivion.

“He who is not everyday conquering some fear has not learned the secret of life.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Most of the time our fears are not real. For example: Every time I turn off the light I think something horrible is going to appear, but it never happens. The reason is because what I imagine that is going to happen is not real, it is all in my mind. Our fears are founded by the environment where we were born. It happens with all our fears, and we can overcome them if we are willing to face them.

I was once afraid of spiders, one day I wondered why? Why I am so afraid of something that never did something to me? The problem is that I was programmed to fear them, I decided to overcome that fear, and I faced what I feared the most. It was hard in the beginning, but day after day my fear has started to vanish.

“Each of us must confront our own fears, must come face to face with them. How we handle our fears will determine where we go with the rest of our lives. To experience adventure or to be limited by the fear of it.” – Judy Blume

It happened with my fear of living in another country, with another culture and language. My fears tried to stop me, at some point they wanted to protect me, so they wanted me to stay in my comfort zone. One day I woke up, and I said to myself: “You know what, if you are going to fear something, fear the idea of living a miserable life for the rest of your life for not having pursued your dreams.” That day I silenced my fears, and I took the first step in the direction of my dreams. It is when you decide to face them, when your life gets another meaning. Do what you fear the most and grow, improve, reborn, evolve.

All your dreams, all the things you want, all your desires are on the other side of your fears. Don’t let them stop you, don’t let them snatch your dreams, face them, challenge them, and defeat them!

Follow Your Passion

We spend most of our time immersed in an endless race. We go through life chasing something, believing that it will give us everything we want. This thing is called money, and we believe that this will help us make all our dreams come true. We make money our first priority, we chase it at all costs, and in the end of this race we pay a high price for it and we lose it all. We realize that money made us blind, it made us follow the wrong path, and we have killed our own dreams, burned our desires, and extinguished the flame of our passion. To avoid this before is too late we must change our direction, and follow our passion, not money.

Somehow we have come to believe that having money is what will make us happy and successful. They told us a wonderful story about money, they painted a fantastic picture in our minds, what gave us the idea that money will allow us to buy every possession in this world, and so acquire an everlasting happiness, and we believed it. The problem with this is that we started chasing money instead our passion, not knowing that we were heading straight to our decay.

The problem when we chase money is that we fall into a big trap. This trap attracts us making us believe that money is the solution to all our problems, and the key to a happy and fulfilled life, so we start chasing it, falling into the trap, right into its claws, and slowly devours our souls alive. It consumes every part of us, and it makes us so addict, so dependent that we need it in order to survive, making us believe that in fact, money makes us happy, and the lack of it makes us miserable, and deaf and blind we defend this idea until we die.

“Chase your passion, not your pension.” – Denis Waitley

But how many successful people do you see out there? And with successful I do not mean having money, because having money does not always equals success, but I mean people living their passion, people who have achieved their dreams and desires, people who is happy living the life they want, people who is truly alive. How many people do you see happy doing what they are doing? Not many isn’t it?

The problem with most of us is that we chase money, we get it, and we settle. As long as we can acquire material possessions we are going to have the idea that we are happy the way we are, even if that happiness depends on something as ephemeral as money. We live under a system that makes us believe that money is the key to a happy life, so we do not follow what makes us really happy, we follow money, believing that one day we are going to be free enough to start chasing our passion, and that day never comes.

“There is no passion to be found playing small, in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” – Nelson Mandela

Therefore, it is important to chase your passion. Your passion is your purpose, is doing what you love, what makes you happy. No matter what that is, you can always make a living doing what you love. Money shouldn’t be our main purpose, if that is your main reason of your existence then you haven’t figured out yet why you are really here, and you are limiting yourself from living a wonderful life.

If you chase money, you will always be chasing it, but if you chase your passion, money will follow. People chase money, they get it, they lose it, they get more, they lose more, they get it back, they throw it away, they think again how to get more, and they bury themselves more and more in this madness. This never stops, that is why most people are living a miserable life, and the problem is not that they have or not money, the problem is what they lose, what they hide, what they sacrifice, what they kill, what they destroy, what they forget for money.

“If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. For your passion will lead you right into your purpose.” – Bishop T.D. Jakes

What is your passion? What makes you happy? What do you love to do? What is your dream? Take a time to think about it, this is really important my friend. Discover your purpose, find your passion, and go out and chase it, chase it under the sun, under the storm, through light or through darkness, when you feel strong or weak, not matter how hard it gets, or how far you are from reaching your goal, no matter how impossible it looks like, always follow your passion, and everything else, including money will follow. Do not settle, do not limit yourself, do not be the killer of your own dreams.

Decide what you want to do and do it. Be the best at it, fail, try again, fail better, and never stop. Chase your passion with confidence and commitment and live the life of your dreams!
