The Rebellious Act of Liking Yourself

We live in a world so obsessed with external appearances that the package has become more important than the content. Nowadays looking good on the outside has become our main priority, our obsession, and the only reason is to be accepted in this society that condemns you or glorifies you for your appearance. Therefore, liking yourself in a society that plays with your self-esteem and expect you to feel ugly is a rebellious act that gives you freedom!

In a society that profits from your self doubt liking yourself is a rebellious act. Caroline Caldwell

This society wants us to believe that in order to be successful we need to look beautiful on the outside. Since we are born we are exposed to different sources which its only purpose is to make us feel ugly. They created the concept that ugly equals unhappiness, and beauty equals happiness and success. It seems that you can only love yourself if you are beautiful on the outside, and that, of course, never happens, and why? because if you finally love yourself, the business would be over, and where there is no business, there is no money.

Our minds have been infected with this virus from the day one. When we are born they cut us our hair, they make a hole in our ears so we can look pretty with cute little earrings, they dress us like dolls, and they make us to act as princesses and princes. As we grew, they gave us skinny, blonde, and blue-eyed Barbie’s to play with, and as we continue to grow that infernal virus sickened our mind with make-up, plastic surgery, reality shows with all good-looking people, movies with beautiful actors, music played by pretty boys and girls, and TV commercials that constantly wash our brains, day in and day out.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

The problem is that we have accepted the concept that we need to look pretty in order to feel happy. We believe that eventually we are going to love ourselves once we look beautiful on the outside, so we buy all the crap that we can find in order to feel happy and like ourselves, but this never ends, we never feel completely happy with ourselves and we want more, we want to look as the girls in the magazines, and the problem is that they do not even look like that in the reality. We chase a fake stereotype of beauty that doesn’t exist.

The problem is that they make us believe that it exists, so we never stop buying the crap they sell, submitting ourselves to this maniac marketing that owns us. There is always something new, a new type of plastic surgery, a new revolutionary product that will make you look 20 years younger, and wonderful tanning product that will make you look tanned the 365 days of a year, a new make-up that transforms your face into a fake and unnatural doll. There always will be something that you will need in order to look beautiful and feel happy. This never stops, never.

“You have been criticizing yourself for years, and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” – Louise L. Hay

Therefore, if you want to be beautiful, start by liking yourself just the way you are, love the real you without any artificial product or special clothes or anything, simply love what society calls “imperfections” because they are not, they are perfect, you are perfect just the way you are. Beauty is a concept that society created in order to set a standard, and profit from it, but everyone is beautiful, we are unique, original, one of a kind, we do not need to be someone else to be beautiful, being ourselves and liking ourselves is what makes us beautiful.

What I mean is that is completely okay to buy and wear all the products you want, as long as your happiness doesn’t depend from it. Change your hair color, wear make-up, make a diet, go to the gym, buy new clothes, use your favorite cream, but do it because you like it, not to impress others, not to be accepted, not to belong, not to feel happy or be successful because you will never be completely happy if you depend on all that to feel good with yourself. Wake up in the morning, go to the mirror, and look yourself without make-up, with your disheveled hair, with your Minnie mouse pajamas, look at your face with your wrinkles, pimples, look at your body with all your “imperfections” and smile at you, because you are beautiful. Love yourself in that very moment and you will find freedom to be yourself without needing anything in order to be it.

“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery

They once said: “beauty hurts” – No my friend, beauty doesn’t hurt, what it hurts is not being able to look yourself in the mirror, and like what you are seeing simply because you don’t look like the girl in the magazine. Not being able to see your true beauty, makes you miserable, and it doesn’t matter how hard you try to look “beautiful” you will always feel miserable, and that hurts thousands of times more than walking with high heels, plastic surgery or waxing. Can you understand the real problem here? It is you! It is the way you see yourself, change the eyes with which you see yourself, fall in love with your true self and you will change your whole life… and you will save a lot of money too! 😉

If you look yourself at the mirror and you like what you see, do you think you will care what others think? Absolutely no! that is called self-confidence and that is liking yourself! You don’t need anything to be beautiful, you already are, just remember that and be free to be your authentic, wonderful, and beautiful self!

What is Success?

Is success the road to happiness? How can we achieve success? Is there perhaps a special recipe for it? What should we do to be successful? In order to answer these questions we must ask ourselves this question first: What is success? In the answer to that question we can find the key to our success.

“The whole secret of a successful life is to find out what is one's destiny to do, and then do it.” - Henry Ford #success #quotes

Have you ever thought about the real meaning of success? And what will make you a successful person? Have you ever wonder why you want to succeed? Do you think success is the road to happiness? The truth is that our own definition of success determines whether we are successful or not.

I have always wondered about success, as I grew up with the belief that happiness was the result of success, therefore I always believed that in order to live a happy life one should succeed first. Years later, I not only realized that my belief was wrong, but I also found out that my ideas about success and how to be successful were also wrong, and that was the reason why I struggled and struggled to be successful always failing at it.

“Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.” – Francis Chan

The problem is that our society teaches us that success is equal to having money, or having fame, or power or material things, or a particular social status, or a degree, a good job, a special talent, or a good-looking appearance, or all of the above. Therefore, we go through our life seeking for those things in order to achieve success, but would that be a real success? Can we consider success as being the act of achieving superficial things? Or is it success something more profound?

Therefore, the rule N.1 to achieve success would be to investigate, define and understand the meaning of the word success. According with the dictionary, success means: The favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one’s goals. Therefore, if success is the achievement of one’s goals, wouldn’t anyone who has achieved its goals be a successful person? Even if those goals don’t involve power, fame or fortune? Or in the end, it’s all about how we measure success? That is to say that success can only be measured in a superficial way?

“Stop chasing the money and start chasing the passion.” – Tony Hsieh

Let’s think about this: There are two people with law degree, who would have wanted to study something different. One of them works in a prestigious law firm, while the other one have decided to make his hobby a profession; he quit his job to travel the world. The first of them has his life assured with a degree, a great job, and an excellent salary but the second one doesn’t, he lives day by day, doing what he loves. Therefore, who is successful?

I guess most of the people, judging for the way their lives look like; they would determine that the first one is the one who is successful. But what if they could see deeper? What if you could see and feel what they feel deep inside their hearts? What if you could feel the pain and suffering of the first person for not doing the things he would love to do? And what if you could feel the joy and happiness of the second person? Would you change your mind?

“The first step toward success is taken when you refuse to be a captive of the environment in which you first find yourself.” – Mark Caine

Once again everything depends on your own definition of success and your personal goals, dreams and desires and what you do or cease to do to achieve those things determines your success. Therefore, if you want to be successful, find your own definition for success, find what would be true success for your and make it happen. Success is being who you really are, always believing in yourself, doing what you love regardless how many material things you possess.

In my case, I discovered that success is doing what you love, success is being happy for who you are and what you have. Success is facing challenges every day, not giving up, rising every time you fall. Success means to conquer your fears, without letting them to conquer you. Success is not allowing adversity to defeat you. Success is being who you really are whenever you want it, without being limited for others opinions about you.

“Success? I don’t know what that word means. I’m happy. But success, that goes back to what in somebody’s eyes success means. For me, success is inner peace. That’s a good day for me.” – Denzel Washington

Successful people are those who have always believed in themselves, successful people are doers, dreamers, believers, adventurers, risk takers, and they never give up. Successful people are those who have dared to follow their own dreams. Successful people are all the children and adults, women and men, rich and poor, famous or unknown, with a degree or not, who are out there being happy, doing what they love, chasing their dreams, being who they really are, without trying to please everybody.

To conclude – Is success the road to happiness? As Albert Schweitzer once said – “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” If you want to be successful: Be happy, do what you love, follow your dreams and make them happen and above all be whoever you want to be, otherwise you will succeed being someone else, having a life you don’t want.

Discovering your life’s purpose

Discovering your life’s purpose is not a simple thing but it’s the most important thing in your life, without a purpose, we merely exist. It is discovering the reason why we are here what gives life a meaning, and is living with a purpose what makes life much more interesting and challenging.

How you ever wonder why you are here? How you ever wonder if what you are doing right now is what you came here to do? Because if what you are doing now makes you feel dead inside is because that thing you are doing now is not your purpose, it is not the reason why you are here, because your purpose is what makes you feel alive; your purpose is what gives you joy and happiness, your purpose is what gives your life a meaning.

Wouldn’t be ironic to go through the complicated, sophisticated and miraculous birth process to come to this world just to be dead? Aren’t we supposed to come to this world to live or we came here to be dead? Because most of the people are afraid of death, not knowing that they are already dead inside while their bodies are still alive. The increasing amount of people with depression, anxiety, stress and other mental disorders as well as the increasing amount of suicides worldwide are an indicative that our perspective about life and the reasons of our existence are wrong.

“The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.” – Fyodor Dostoyevsky

It seems that when we are kids we know what we would like to become, or at least we dare to dream, and we dare to dream big. When you are a kid everything is possible, but sooner or later that concept is snatched from you, and everything you once believed, all your dreams and desires along with your true self are killed and buried and you become a product of this decadent society.

What would you like to be when you grow up? – My God, if I heard that question when I was a child! I never understood why adults would ask that question if what they only want to hear are things like: I want to be a lawyer just like my Dad! Or I want to be an engineer! Because if you tell them: I want to be a singer! Or I want to be a superhero and save the world! Or I want to become a veterinary and save all the animals! Or I want to become an astronaut! People will usually say something like this: But you won’t earn any money doing that! Or that’s impossible! Or you can’t do that!

“You were put on this earth to achieve your greatest self, to live out your purpose, and to do it courageously.” – Steve Maraboli

The truth is when we become adults we stop believing and we start doing what is best for our family, friends and so on and we do everything we can to fit in this society that slowly kills us inside and we live or in better words we simple exist for the rest of our lives, doing what we don’t want to do, depriving ourselves from our true purpose. The funny thing is we go through life seeking happiness, but we don’t even wonder why are we here, and how in the world can we be absolutely happy if we are not doing what we came here to do?

Discovering your life’s purpose should be your main goal, not money, the car, the house, and other material things, nor fame, nor power. Those things can follow or not, but those things should be absolutely secondary for you. Once you discover your life’s purpose, and you do what you came to do, everything that is good for you will come to you without calling it.

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Discovering your life’s purpose is not easy, because it requires leaving your comfort zone. To know who you are and why you are really here you must ask questions you have never asked before, you must leave that comfort place where everything is known to enter in that awkward and unknown place where you wonder and doubt everything about your life, and that can be sometimes painful as you will know how unconscious and dead you were, but in the end you will find happiness, peace and joy you have yearned for, and you will know what means to be truly alive.

We are not in this world by accident, we are here for a reason, and finding that reason is the key to live a happy and successful life. If we fail to find that reason, if we avoid finding that purpose, our life becomes an obligation, we become slaves of a miserable life and our daily life becomes our punishment until we are finally released from our pain through the process of death.

Find the reason why you are here and your whole life will have a different meaning. It is a wonderful experience to enjoy life being truly alive!

The Reflection of a Desperate Soul

The reflection of a desperate soul is a short story about a woman who was lost, but who found her true self. It is a story that reflects what is happening to most of the people in our society. Nowadays most of the people are trying to be someone else, trying to be what other people want them to be, forgetting to be themselves. People just exist but they don’t truly live, that’s why there is so much pain and sadness in people’s hearts. So here goes the story…

"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“The reflection of a desperate soul”

It was 5.45 pm on a Tuesday afternoon; it was another common day for a normal woman. She was counting the minutes to get out of the office, or the cell how she used to call it. Finally, she left her prison’s cell to get into the concrete jungle, and as it was the rush hour, the madness was higher than usual. She took her bike as fast as she could and at full speed she headed home.

The concrete jungle was full of ghosts with empty souls, the view was horrific, but she knew a shortcut. She went back home through the secret paradise, which was a lake full of ducks, swans, birds and other different species perfectly hidden in the middle of the city, or the concrete jungle as she used to call it. She usually stopped every day to admire the view for a couple of minutes before going back home, because somehow she always felt some kind of peace while doing it, and as another normal day, she arrived to the lake, got down the bike and went to admire the view, not knowing that her life was about to change forever.

She was watching the animals when suddenly she saw herself reflected in the lake – Who am I? Why am I here? She wondered – She saw her reflection, but couldn’t recognize herself anymore. She always followed the rules, and always did everything she was supposed to do to please her family, friends, and the entire society. But she could see in her reflection her sad and empty eyes that seemed to scream for help, and she realized that she has never been herself, her inner emptiness reflected in her lifeless pale face and in her sad eyes confirmed it. She had forgotten what it was to be a little girl full of joy, dreams and happiness, she had stopped playing with dolls and puppets, and what was worse, she had become one of them, and the ones who were playing were others.

It was in that moment when she realized how lost she was, she never had time to look into her eyes, and reflect about her own miserable reflection. Her soul was empty and her heart seemed to have no pulse, she was a dead body, a ghost, a puppet, a programmed machine of society, she was everything, except herself. And she asked herself one more time – Who are you? Who have you become? – And then anger seized her. She was furious with herself, she was looking at her own reflection with disgust and repulsion, and in that moment of anger and confusion, while looking at her own pathetic reflection in the lake, she fell straight into the water, feelings of sadness and sorrow pierced her body. She stayed there floating on the water, feeling completely lost. She laid down on the lake watching the sky, and said to herself – This is it, I’m lost, I have no way out, I’m a puppet of this society, I don’t even know who I am anymore, I’m just the broken pieces of something I used to be, I have no purpose, no life, I’m not myself, I’m nothing – And she let her body sink into the depths of the lake as she watched the sky.

Suddenly while she was drowning, she saw a beautiful bird with its open wings, flying in the blue sky, she could not help staring at it with a smile on her face, because that bird reminded her about something she had lost many years ago, and that thing was freedom, freedom to be and to do whatever she wanted, freedom to go wherever she wanted, freedom to fly, to travel, to dream. And then after a few seconds she closed her eyes, and in the middle of that reflection and absolute relax, she forgot about the water going through her body, and because of this, she was about to give her last breath when she felt like someone was pushing her back to the surface, when she got there, she opened her eyes, and she saw everything in a completely different way, everything had changed, or in fact, she has changed. And as fast as she could, she got out of the lake and screamed – Freedom! I am free! – She had finally broken the heavy chains that were sinking her. The contact with her own reflection and her inner strength inspired by a divine miracle had opened her eyes, and so she found freedom, she found herself. With all that happiness and joy that gave life to her soul she ran like never before and went back to her home.

On the next day, she felt like she was born again, she realized that in order to be alive, she should be free to do the things she loves and be the person she always wanted to be. And she started living her life again, being her true self. She stopped being a puppet of the society, and far from it, she began to be her true self. And now being herself, being free again, she went out to follow her dreams, and lived her life with love, freedom and passion.

Finding Yourself

I hope you liked the reflection of a desperate soul, it is a story about losing and finding yourself, it’s a story about being free, free to be who you want to be and do whatever you want to do, freedom to go where we want, freedom to follow our heart and dreams. Freedom to choose our own path.

Sometimes in order to find yourself you must feel completely lost at first, because it is in those moments of absolute chaos, when you feel completely lost when you find yourself and with that you find freedom. Knowing who you are and be it, without worrying about what others may think of you means to be truly alive, because when you know who you are, you know why you are here, and discovering your life’s purpose is the key to live a happy and fulfilled life.

Let’s find ourselves, and recover our freedom!

Be fearlessly authentic!

We live in a world where being a copy is much easier than being authentic because we are always being influenced by the society in which we live that is constantly forcing us to stop being who we really are, so we can become a stereotyped model of perfection.

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

Nowadays being authentic means you have to fight a hard battle where you will always begin losing, because your adversary has the power to convince you to become a cheap copy of something else which is a far greater power than the one you have to convince yourself to become who you truly are despite external influences.

It requires a lot of courage and strength to be genuine in a world that is constantly trying to make you a copy of someone else. We are constantly being influenced by external factors which are always trying to manipulate our mind making us to feel shame for who we are, what makes us fall in the trap that in order to be successful in life, we should never try to be ourselves, but a cheap replica of the stereotype of successful woman and man imposed by the society in which we live.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

We lack authenticity for we have become what others wanted us to become: a replica of someone else. We have been influenced, forced, and manipulated to follow the rules written by society of “How to be successful being something else except yourself” Our brain has been washed and our mind has been programmed to follow rules. They have given us the keys to be successful, but successful in what? Successful being someone you’re not? Can we succeed not being our true selves?

Well, I guess the answer will depend on your own definition of success, if for you being successful means to become an exact copy of someone else then go ahead and keep following someone else’s rules, but if instead being successful for you means being true to yourself, being whatever you wanted to be and doing all the things you came here to do, no matter what others will think about it, then you should only follow the rules of your heart, they will tell you exactly what to do, those are the rules that will make you truly successful.

“When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you see the real you, or what you have been conditioned to believe is you? The two are so, so different. One is an infinite consciousness capable of being and creating whatever it chooses, the other is an illusion imprisoned by its own perceived and programmed limitations.” – David Icke

The problem is we have tried so much to become the person we should become in order to be accepted by others, that we have forgotten our own identity, and so we don’t even know who we really are. We act, we think, we speak, we dress, we eat, and we behave as the rest, lacking originality. We are so concerned about fitting in this society that we have decided to become someone else, leaving our true self aside.

It is not a coincidence that most of the people behave in the same way. We have been programmed like a computer to follow rules. It has been said that in order to be accepted by others we should act in a certain manner and think in a special way, and so we are constantly pretending to be what we are not in order to be accepted, because we have the wrong belief that being successful means being what the society tells you to be.

“You were born an original. Don’t die a copy.” – John Mason

Don’t be afraid to be your true self but be afraid of becoming a cheap imitation of another person. You don’t need to become someone else to be amazing, you are already amazing. You don’t need to have thousands of fans telling you how amazing you are, because you only need just one: Yourself. If you accept yourself and love yourself as you are, you will be free to be whoever you wanted to be regardless if you are accepted by others or not.

In order to be the best version of yourself, you should be original, following the rules of your own heart. You can only be truly successful being your true self; otherwise you will be successful being a copy. There is a difference between wanting to do what someone else has done and wanting to become that person, you can share the same goal but that doesn’t mean you have to become that person in order to achieve it, you can achieve anything you want just being yourself, so stop trying to become someone else, and start being yourself!

Be free, be original, be authentic, be you!

Follow your heart and intuition.

just_be_yourself-661207

It’s very complicated these days to just be yourself, but as Steve Jobs said: follow your heart and intuition and be who you want to be and not what somebody else want, it is you and only you that will live your life anyway right?.

But I know, it is very easy to be contaminated by the society in which we are living and without losing ourselves, don’t you think so?. And you get in those moments where you don’t know who you really are and what are you really doing here.

The problem is that we look without really seeing, we don’t live, we just exist.

We don’t let ourselves be who we really want to be, and why? because of one of the most lethal things that exist in this world:

FEAR

Fear of what?

Fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of what other people will think about us.

”The greatest prison that people lives in is the fear of what other people think.”

We think we are free, but we are not. We live in an invisible prison, that we create with our thoughts. That’s why we don’t let ourselves be whoever we wanted to be.

We dream, we wish, but we don’t believe, we just believe in what other people say, if they say that what you want is hard to get and impossible and that you are crazy for even thinking about it, you believe it, you accept those words as a reality, and you start being what society tell you to be, forgetting who you really are.

listen_only_what_your_heart_says-585705

I know that you already know what you want to become in this world, maybe you are not 100% conscious about that, but there is something that you love to do, that makes you smile and makes you enjoy life in a way  you have never experienced  before. I guess that you have felt that many times before, and that is being your true self, that is saying to the world you know what? This is what makes me happy, This is who I really am!

It’s unbelievable how we limit ourselves by not following our heart and intuition. We do what we are supposed to do, because they tell you that there is no other way to live. You have to do the right things at the right time, if you want a happy life. But if it were like that, why most of the people in this world are not happy?

Because we do what someone else told us to do and not what we really wanted to do.

We live as if we will live forever, letting everything for tomorrow, but no matter what you have done in this life, we all end in the same place someday.

So break the walls of fear that are around you, don’t be trapped any more by others opinions, remember that somebody else’s opinions don’t have to become your reality.

”Your life is yours, live it!”

Life goes too fast to waste it, there is so many beautiful things, and there is so much to be grateful and happy for.

So go out, live the life that you always wanted, be the person you always wanted to be, be a voice and not an echo,  give to others what you want to receive and above all:

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, this is actually what we really are. A beautiful human beings, with  the ability to be and get whatever we want, and we have the power to change other people lives, and our lives and so… The entire world!

”The problem is, that we think we have time.” – Buddha

So the time is now, don’t wait until you don’t have it anymore. So enjoy the present, is what we have right now and nothing else, and if you want to see the future, see what you are doing now, do not let things for tomorrow, there may be no tomorrow.

Today is the day to be happy, to celebrate, to be grateful, to have joy, to feel love and be just yourself.!
