The Secret to Success: Keep Moving Forward

Through out our lifetime we pass through different stages. Periods of extreme joy, calmness and peace, periods of chaos and brutal struggle, and in order to emerge victorious from the different stages of life we have to keep moving forward. We have within ourselves the necessary tools to overcome any obstacle and achieve all our goals and dreams. One of the secrets to success is always keep moving forward.

"If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward." - Martin Luther King Jr

I am an unstoppable dreamer looking always for new adventures, and leaving my comfort zone is something I have done from the past years. Every time I do it, it does not take long until I am face to face to the harsh reality of being in that place of uncertainty, but always God and life find their ways to show me that we must always keep moving forward, because we have within ourselves the power, the strength and the courage to overcome any obstacle, and that is one of the secrets to success.

A few days ago I was kayaking for the first time. I got in a single kayak, the guide pushed me into the water, and there I was, sitting alone in a small boat in the middle of the sea. We started the tour, paddling around the beautiful scenery that Norway has to offer. In the beginning the sea was very calm, then the wind started to blow against us and paddling through those waters became a very hard task. I knew I was trying very hard to move,  but I felt as I was not moving, exhausted I kept paddling, moving forward through turbulent waters, and suddenly it was calm again and everything became much easier. In some moments I simply stopped paddling and I took the time to enjoy the surroundings.

“We develop our character muscles by overcoming challenges and obstacles.” – Stephen Covey

In that state of peace and relax I discovered a hidden message. Life was using that sea kayaking tour to explain me that in order to move forward in life one must keep paddling even in the worst of conditions. It taught me that life can sometimes be a calm and relaxed experience but sometimes can become a little harsh, but one has their own paddles, that is to say, our strength and courage that will help us move through the currents of life.

Life always finds its ways to teach you helpful lessons that can help you become the best version of yourself, specially when leaving your comfort zone which can happen even without your approval. Life sometimes pushes us away from our comfort zone in a very brutal way for a reason that can be very hard to understand in the beginning, and sometimes like a kamikaze we leave our comfort zone for no reason at all or to pursue a dream, a desire, a fantasy.

“Don’t waste your time looking back. You’re not going that way.” – Ragnar Lothbrok (Vikings)

Moving away from that place of comfort always means that you will have to face many challenges. They can be very simple or very hard ones, but in the end all of these challenges will make you grow and evolve in a personal and spiritual way. Always remember to keep your eyes in the horizon, keep moving forward, and don’t look back, you are not going there anyway.

Keep paddling through life, keep moving forward with strength, commitment, perseverance and courage, because that is the secret to success!

The Story of The Two Wolves: The Battle Within

There are two wolves who are always fighting. One is darkness and despair, and the other is light and hope. The question is: which wolf wins?

"Some of the greatest battles will be fought within the silent chambers of your own soul.” - Ezra Taft Benson

The answer is: The one you feed. This is a great quote from a movie I saw a couple of days ago: Tomorrowland, which has a very inspirational and beautiful message, but it is in fact a Native American Cherokee story, and I would like to share it with you, please read it carefully, the message is wonderful, believe me, you won’t regret it:

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.

He said,My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

A beautiful story, isn’t it? It has within a powerful message that teaches us one thing: We decide. It is up to us to decide which of the wolves we will feed. It doesn’t depend on anyone except ourselves. The story reminds us that we all have a great power within us: The power to decide who we are, what gives us the control of our own feelings, emotions and behaviours.

There are two wolves, there are two of us, they are opposites but equals at the same time, they fight and in the end they become one, and in that moment one of the two wolves’ wins, and the one who wins is the one who we have decided to become. In any given moment we have the chance to decide which wolf is going to win the battle, our external circumstances together with any person we meet along the way will help one of the wolves, but in the end we are the ones who decide who wins. The one who wins more battles, that is to say, the one who we have fed more will win the fight. The question is: Which of them are you going to let win?

“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” – Stephen R. Covey

The first and most important question you should ask yourself is: Who am I? – Which wolf do you think you are? With which one you identify yourself with? Which wolf represents your true self? Once you discover the answers to those questions, you will decide which wolf will you feed, and that is the most important thing that can happen to us: To know who we really are and act according to our true self, being the best version of ourselves.

Every single day of your life, in different situations, you will always have the power to decide: Am I going to feed today the “bad” wolf or the “good” wolf? Am I going to be my true self or am I going to be who I’m not? Am I going to let external situations to control my feelings, emotions and behaviors or am I going to act as my true self? The decision is yours, and that of course is the difficult part to accept, because it’s much easier to blame others for our behaviors rather than having full responsibility for what we believe, think, speak and do. But always remember that it doesn’t matter who you were yesterday, what really matters from now on is who you choose to be right now. Your past situations do not define you, because it is you who define yourself, it is you who has the power to decide now who you really are.

“Who are you now? Who have you decided you really are now? Don’t think about who you have been. Who are you now? Who have you decided to become? Make this decision consciously. Make it carefully. Make it powerfully.” – Tony Robbins

Let’s take just a couple of minutes to think. Think about the last few days, which wolf do you think you have been feeding? How do you feel about that? If your life is full of happiness, joy, peace, if you believe, dream and wish, if you feel happy even when your life is not going 100% the way you wanted, then probably you have been feeding the right wolf because you have decided to feel that way even though your external circumstances gave you a lot of resources to help you feed the other wolf. Can you see? You have the control at any moment to decide which wolf you are going to feed, and when we have the control, we are free, and we are no longer vulnerable to external circumstances.

Two wolves, one decision, you choose, the power is within you. Your actions will define yourself and will create your destiny. Therefore, which wolf are you going to feed today?

Attitude is everything

Attitude is everything; and will determine your reality. Whatever is happening to you, it will have a lot of power or nothing at all, depending on how you react to it and how you let that situation to affect you.

Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to itIt’s that simple, we have the power within ourselves to decide how a situation is going to affect our life, and our attitude against a situation, will give us our feelings and emotions, and that will give us our reality. A situation by itself has no power at all; we give the power to it through our thoughts.

“The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem. Do you understand?” – Captain Jack Sparrow

No matter what is happening in our life, we can decide how we are going to react to it, allowing a situation to affect us or not. Our attitude is something we can change at any time, it might not be something easy to do, but is completely under our control, what gives us the power to decide how we are going to react to something and therefore how we are going to feel about it.

“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” – Winston Churchill

There are moments where we might be able to change what is happening, and there are moments where we can’t do anything with what is happening to us, whatever the situation, you and only you can allow a situation to control your emotions.

It doesn’t matter what kind of person we are, everyone is going to have different situations in their lives that will make them miserable or successful, what it’s going to make the difference between them is their attitude.

“We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.” – Carlos Castenada

There are different people who have been through the same situation, but their realities were totally different, because their attitudes were completely different from each other. What really matters here is to not give up against a situation, do not let a situation to determine your thoughts, feelings and emotions, do not let a situation control your reality, it is your attitude what has all the power to change everything in a second.

Life would be much easier if we could learn how to control a situation by changing our attitude, instead of letting a situation to control us and our entire reality. You can accept a situation and be miserable or you can change your attitude and be happy, the choice is yours.

We can be the victims of a situation, and let it to rule our life, or we can be the creator of our own destiny, by choosing how we are going to think, and feel, and what are we going to do about what is happening to us right now, knowing that we have the power to decide how our reality is going to be no matter what is happening.

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” – Maya Angelou

Attitude is everything, depending on how you react to what is happening, is what will give your inner reality, regardless of what is really happening outside of you. Remember that you have the power to turn a situation around, what you have to do is to change your attitude, and you will change your world.
