A New Year: Hundreds of New Opportunities

Why the New Year is a motive to celebrate? Because life will give us 365 new opportunities to enjoy life and be happy, that is why in this time of the year our hearts are filled with dreams, desires and hope. Deep inside our hearts, we believe that this one could be the year where we can do everything we have always wanted to do, making our dreams and goals become a reality, and that is in fact true. The question will be: Are you 100% committed to give your best this year? The answer will determine your future.

"Tomorrow, is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one." - Brad Paisley

At 00:00 am on the first day of the year, we raise our glasses and make a toast for the New Year, and with joy we look into the future with hope. We remember the year that is gone but we look forward to the next year. Most of us think about all the things we wanted to do that we haven’t done in the last year and we wish that this year we can do all the things we have always wanted to do. That is the spirit of this time of the year, the spirit of believing that everything is possible.

The problem is that after a few days, that spirit is overshadowed by our daily routine, worries, fears and problems, and once again we leave aside all our goals, desires and dreams. Therefore, we leave everything to chance and when that happens there is a large percentage of probabilities that we are not going to do most of the things we wanted to do. That means, that we sabotage our own life, forbidding us to live the life of our dreams.

“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney

The truth is we do not know all the things that will happen to us, but that doesn’t mean we should leave everything to chance, but we should do everything we can in order to create the kind of life that will bring us the greatest joy and happiness. Therefore, we must use these days to reflect about the year that is ending, that way we can welcome the New Year more prepared, being the creators of our future and not simply gambling about our life. It is important to know that we are where we are now because we wanted that way, therefore, if we want a different outcome, we should do something in a different way.

Let’s take this time to relax and reflect about this year. Have you done most of the things you have always wanted? Have you reached most of your goals? Have you invested most of the time in yourself? Have you been most of the time happy and joyful? What could you have done different? Have you learned something new? Have you grown up as a person? Are you happy with the person you have been? Have you worked hard in order to be a few step closer from your dream? Have you truly enjoyed your life? My friend, that is the most important question of all, so I will write it one more time: Have you truly enjoyed your life?

“Change your life today. Don’t gamble on the future, act now, without delay.” – Simone de Beauvoir

That is important, because no matter what happened, if you have been able to enjoy your life, that is all that matters. Life is meant to be happy with its good and bad things. The good things are the best but the bad things are lessons, opportunities and tests that life gives us in order to take out the best of ourselves. Think about all those questions, take your time to relax and reflect and then leave the past, forget what doesn’t serve you, remember the lessons, learn from your mistakes and keep all the good things from this year, and with hope and confidence move into this new year with joy.

Once we finish, we must focus on the year that is about to arrive, and the most important question will be: What do you really want to happen to you this year?  Once you know the answer, think about these questions: What can you do now to improve your future? What can you do this year to get closer to your dreams? Which is the first step? What can you do in order to become the best version of yourself? Think about the things that make you happy and then go out and make it happen. Think about them and write them, and take the actions that will make everything possible.

There is no right time, the time is always now. The good thing is that it doesn’t really matter in what time of the year we are, because every new day is a new opportunity to do the things we always wanted to do and be happy. There is no time to waste, time flies, time is limited, so go out and make this year a wonderful year!

Our Silence: The Weapon of Evil

The evil has triumphed, without much effort has defeated the good, snatching its crown, and now, sitting on its throne runs the world. Its power has been the inaction of the good people, and their silence was its lethal weapon. Our silence is causing our own destruction, therefore, it is in our hands to take action and stop so much suffering.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke

Our silence against the horrors of the world it is what has given to evil the power to conquer the world. Day after day, horrendous acts are being carried out around the world, and humanity remains silent. Evil act with impunity under our noses, and all of us, blind and deaf to the desperate cries of its victims, we remain motionless, speechless, before so much pain.

Our silence is the weapon that has been used by evil to win. It has not damaged its victims as much as we have damaged them with our silence. We are all accomplices of the atrocities committed in the world by remaining silent and looking away to those who claim our help. Our silence is our own punishment, because it condemns us to live in a world full of darkness ruled by evil, where nobody is exempt of its power.

In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

If the evil has won is because we have let it to win. Wars, murders, violence, rape, bullying, racism, and much more, all happen in front of our eyes, and our silence is our response. We become very confused and stunned before such atrocities but then we continue with our daily duties as if nothing happened. The problem is we do not act until evil touches us close. Once we face the clutches of evil, our silence becomes a cry, and the cry becomes a prayer, and then we realize that nobody seems to listen, and it is in that moment when we realize that humanity is too worried doing something else to listen to those who claim our help.

How different would everything be if we would realize the power we all have within. Together we can make this world a better place. It is the power of the good ones, what can put the evil on its knees, but for doing so we must not stay silent, but speak, not stay still, but act. The problem is we are not aware of our power, we believe we cannot make a difference, so we give up before trying. We wish and hope that someone, one day, will do something to help those who need it, but most of the time, that help never comes, and the pain of those who are suffering never ends. The only thing that we do, that does not help in any way is by remaining silent. Therefore, every little thing we can do counts.

“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.” – Albert Einstein

Love is what this world lacks. A love revolution is what we need to do if we want to live in peace. We need to know that nothing will change if we remain silent before the different types of atrocities that are committed each day. Together we must fight against evil, not with violence but we love, compassion and understanding. Every act of evil we see must be repudiated, and we must act in order to prevent any more suffering. Those who do evil need to know that we are not like them, and we must give them our good example. We must express and declare that we are all together regardless our race, culture or religion. Not any other innocent human being should suffer by the hands of those who do evil.

Together we can defeat evil, not by remaining silent but by raising our voices. It is time for us to do everything we can in order to stop those which threaten our own existence. Our voices need to be heard and our message must be clear: Yes to love and peace, No to violence and hate!

Take the First Step

In order to reach our destination, we must begin the journey by taking the first step. Any victory depends on that first step. It is the first action, the first move, the first try, what can lead us to the place where we want to get. That first step makes everything possible and our following actions make it all come true.

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." - Lao Tzu

Let’s analyse this: Everyone wants to win the jackpot, but how many of us actually goes and buy the ticket? The truth is that only a few of us do that, but why? The reason is simple: Our thoughts and beliefs creates boundaries between our dreams and our reality. We dream but believe they are impossible or too difficult to become a reality, so we give up even before trying.

If you believe that the chances of winning are almost zero it is very likely that you are not going to buy the ticket, so you are not even going to try, or you will try, and if you don’t win, you will use that as a way to prove that you were right about that winning was impossible, and you will finally give up. You can see here that the first step is crucial as it determines everything.

“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” – Theodore Roosevelt

But why the first step is so crucial? How is it possible that it can determine everything? Simple. There are two different outcomes that makes the first step so vital: If we decide to not take that first step, we decide to lose by default. But if we take that first step, it means that we are in the correct way to make our dreams become a reality. If we continue to move forward, step by step, not giving up, overcoming adversity, with perseverance, commitment and faith, it is likely that we reach the desired destination.

Therefore, the first step will be to buy the ticket. What I mean here is that we have to believe in our dreams and go out and make them happen. In order to make your dreams and goals become a reality, you will have to take the first action that will get you closer to the place where you want to be. The first step will determine whether your dream will remain a dream or if it will become true.

“Take the first step, and your mind will mobilize all its forces to your aid. But the first essential is that you begin. Once the battle is startled, all that is within and without you will come to your assistance.” – Robert Collier

No dream will become a reality if we do not take actions. It is beautiful to dream, but what is hard is to take actions to make them a reality. You are not going to win the jackpot if you don’t buy the ticket, that is to say, you are not going to get to the place where you want to be, or get what you want to have if you don’t take the first step. It is our decision to act what creates our destiny and it is our inaction what leaves everything to chance.

If you want to be a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer, a graphic designer, or whatever you want to be, you will have to take the first step and enrol in the university. If you want to learn a new language, you will have to take the first step and look for a course in your city or online. If you want to lose weight you will have to take the first step and make the decision to change your diet. If you hate your job and you want another, you will have to take the first step and find another one. If you want to be a professional athlete, you will have to go and train. If you want to quit smoking, you will have to decide to smoke less cigarettes a day or not buy any more cigarettes. There is always a first step that makes what we wish and dream more real.

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and starting on the first one.” – Mark Twain

It is the first step what get us closer to our dream, and it is our perseverance and commitment to make it happen what makes it all possible. Every single person who has been successful at doing or getting something has once decided to take the first step and then work until they succeeded.  So, what is your dream? What do you want to do? Who do you want to be? What do you want to get? Where do you want to get? If you know the answers to those questions it means that the moment to start is right now. The key is to do step by step what we should do in order to achieve what we want. We have to make the decision to take the first step and start changing our lives.

My question now is: Have you taken the first step? If you have done it, congratulations! You are one step closer to your goal, keep moving and don’t give up, and if you haven’t done it yet, go ahead and fearlessly take the first step
